The hoist-type gate hoist uses steel cables or steel cable pulley groups as lifting devices connected to the gate. Through a gear transmission system, the drum winds or releases the steel cables to drive the lifting mechanism, also known as a fixed steel wire rope hoist. It has a relatively simple structure, is easy to manufacture, and convenient to maintain and repair, making it widely used for operating various types of gates. Hoist-type gate hoists are divided into single-point and double-point lifting types. The double-point hoist-type gate hoist connects two single-point hoists together via a connecting shaft for synchronous operation, which can be designed with either one-side or two-side drive. Typically, one hoist-type gate hoist is used for one gate, installed on the pier above the top of the gate slot. In China, the capacity of hoist-type gate hoists that have been produced and put into operation has reached: gate opening force of 6000 kN with a hoisting stroke of 30 m, and gate opening force of 4000 kN with a hoisting stroke of 120 m.
